1. Use Your Junk Journal as an Everyday Journal
An everyday journal is just what it sounds like – it’s a journal you use for the everyday plans of life. It’s one of those journals where pretty much everything and anything might end up in it.
You can also collect and display ephemera from the daily things you do – maybe a receipt or a sleeve from that cup of coffee you enjoyed with a friend or a tag from something you bought.
These types of junk journals are a great way to document and remember all those little moments that make life special.
This type of junk journal becomes a daily scrapbook but not as rigid. You can always include things like appointments, notes or to-do lists.
2. Use Your Junk Journal as a Planner
I am one of those people who always has multiple scraps of paper “to-do lists". I am also one of those people who lose those "todo lists". I am starting to use a junk journal to keep all my lists. Not only is it handy, I know where all my lists are. I can add post its or washi tape and it just creates a more artful and useful display.
You can decide if you to keep the journal in calendar format, or just a bit looser with all your ongoing activities and things to do!
3. Make a Memory Keeper from Your Junk Journal
A scrapbook is a book that showcases the life and memories of a person. A junk journal does the same thing but with less structure. This is a great way to use and display personal papers, birthday cards, anniversary cards, ticket stubs, receipts, favorite photos, etc.
4. Create a Personalized Junk Journal Gift
I have collected so many memories of my kids growing up. I have always meant to create scrapbooks. Junk journals make for an easier personalized and creative gift to give to someone. Gather up all the items you have been saving: kids art work, test scores, report cards, game scores, funny notes, etc.
Grab some scissors, glue, markers and a journal and get started. Or Create your own journal cover like this from an upcycled canvas art project.
5. Create a Theme with Your Junk Journal
Create a theme from a special memory, weekend or trip. Or just make a monthly junk journal or a floral junk journal. The possibilities are endless.
