5 Things to DeClutter Before it's Winter

5 Things to DeClutter Before it's Winter

It’s official: the holiday season is here!

So why not kick off winter with a clean and organized home?

Winter doesn’t technically begin until December 21. But before you dive into  organizing, it’s best to begin by decluttering.

Let me help you get started? Here are five things to consider decluttering before winter gets here.

1. LINEN CLOSET

Does anyone really need four sets of sheets if they only have one guest room?

No. It is  the season to get rid of extra linens.

Do you have frayed, stained, miss matched linens or towels?

It is time to part with them. Donate them to your local animal shelter.

2. MEDICATION

There’s nothing worse than waking up the day after a holiday party with a headache only to discover your ibuprofen is expired.

Take a quick look at your medicine cabinet or where ever you store your over the counter medicines and prescription medications. Get rid of any meds that are expired and make sure you have basic pain medication, and your preferred remedies for cough and cold season.

Take all your expired meds to a local pharmacy or your Town for the proper disposal.

3. WINTER WARDROBE

The change of a season is a great time to take a look in your closet.
Start with bulky items like sweaters and coats, then move on to accessories like scarves, boots, gloves, and hats.

Are they in good condition?

When was the last time your wore them?

Let go of anything that’s damaged or missing a mate, like single mittens or gloves.
Get rid of anything you did not use last winter. Toss duplicates! How many black scarves do you need?

4. HOLIDAY DECORATIONS
You might be happy to keep some treasured holiday decorations, like an heirloom candy dish or sentimental ornaments.

But toss things that don’t fit your new look, or theme. Holiday decorations evolve over the years. It's ok to get rid of the holiday decorations that no longer bring you joy.

Place them in a box this year and date the box. If they still do not fit your life the following year, donate them or trash.

5. KITCHEN ITEMS

While cold weather means more warm drinks, you may want to part with that "World's Best Co-Worker" mug.
Your mug collection and souvenir glasses may be taking up way too much cabinet space. Free up room and keep your cabinets from feeling overcrowded by discarding cracked, worn out or stained mugs and glasses.

While you are at it, get rid of those chipped wine glasses, plates serving platters and all of those big water bottles you never use.

It's Ok to part with things. Let's create memories and not more "things"
